From the Desk of the Daytime Training Divison

Daytime training drills for the Town of Vernon Fire Department are scheduled twice a month on various Tuesdays from 10:00 to 12:00. Day drills are open to all members of the fire department. Due to limited personnel at these drills, it offers an excellent chance for hands on training. Recently, some members who attend night time drills have been also attending day drills as well. This is important, as it provides the opportunity for daytime members to meet and interact with other members that they would not normally work with.
Company captains have been given a schedule which includes the dates for the day drills.
The daytime training division would like to take this opportunity to thank a few members who have helped with day drills, Lt. Stan Landry, Lt. George Males, Lt. Mike Colt and Eng. Scott Lent.

Spring Basic Training Class Comes to an End

Each year the Town of Vernon Fire Department holds a basic training class to teach and evaluate candidates that have joined the department. These classes are held at Station 341 and lead instructors  for this class are Capt. Steve Scanlon and Lt. Steve Eppler. The class is taught in 10 to 14 week training sessions, depending on the size and performance of class.
This class is designed to give the candidates an overview of most firefighting subjects. The first three classes, an introduction into the TVFD organization, a health and safety class instructed by Deputy Chief Sue Fischer, and bloodborn pathogens and hazardous materials, are taught to every new member, including members of the ambulance company, fire police and juniors. Fire behavior & control, water supply and hydrant hook-up are just a few examples of the other classes that are taught.
