"Signal 63-72 on Hammond St" is the call on the radio that was repeated on two separate occasions, only one month apart. The first occurred at 15 Hammond Street at 7:58 a.m. on December 29, 1998.
When units arrived, heavy fire was showing from the right rear side of the house. All occupants where reported out of the building when hose lines where advanced into the ground floor and ventilation was being done by aerial operations. Difficulty was encountered venting the roof, while locked doors hindered interior operations. Crews were backed out

Crews then re-entered the structure for overhaul. Fire was declared under control at 10:52 a.m. and companies remained on scene for overhaul until 12:55 p.m. Assistance was also requested from Ellington's Rescue and Rapid Intervention Team.

a.m. to find fire showing from the attic area of the two story multi-family home. Vernon PD already encouraged occupants to exit the building. Hose teams were placed into operation, while aerial operations where hindered by overhead power lines. Hose teams also encountered difficulty due to problems finding the attic scuttle. Aerial devices controlled the main body of the fire and the operation was terminated at 5:59 a.m.. A female occupant of the apartment was charged with setting the fire.
