The newest committee of the Town of Vernon Fire Department is the EMS Committee. The committee meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at Station 641. The co-chairpersons are Craig Tedeshi and Kathy Morrissey. Secretary is Maria Muniz.
The committee's goal is to improve communications within the fire department on EMS issues. One issue the committee is currently working on is a new ambulance scheduling system and how it can better utilize all EMT's and MRT's to help fill the schedule.
A future goal of the committee is to create and suggest better ways to improve the department's EMS as a whole. Many of these ideas and suggestions might overlap and thus filter to other committees within the department, such as Training and Safety.
It is the committee's intent to bring forth ideas in an open minded, organized and purposeful manner.
The following members have helped create and have shown an active participation with implementing this committee: Tim Morrissey, Laurie Galley, Jean Gauthier, Kevin Dalton, Ian Mead, Sandy Manseau, Denise Melendez and Sue Fischer.
The committee would like to encourage members with EMS interests to attend the meetings.

We are pleased to announce the arrival of five new firefighters to the Town of Vernon. These new recruits are in training until late April.
The new recruits are: Brian Moulton assigned to T141. Brian came from a fire department in Vermont and has two years of firefighting experience. John Kidla, assigned to EQ441, is new to this field but thinks he would like to pursue a career in firefighting. Welcome to Shawn Bazinet assigned to ET341. Shawn is also new to firefighting and is thinking about joining the Air Force and pursuing firefighting. We have another family tradition starting with the addition of Dan Robertson, son of Dana Robertson. Dan will be assigned to ET441. He was a junior for 3 ½ years and would like to follow in his father's footsteps.
Another tradition may also be beginning with the addition of another police officer joining the ranks. Welcome to Rich Haynes. He is assigned to ET141 and was a member in Vernon for a short time 15 years ago, with experience from the Ashford and Rocky Hill fire departments. Rich says he enjoys this type of work and recently rejoined because he admired his pal Chris Hammick!! Well…now we have heard them all!!!
Good luck recruits in your training class and welcome to the Town of Vernon Fire Department.
