On Monday, December 7, 1998 at 6:19 a.m. TN toned ET241 and ET341 for a fire alarm on Elm Hill Road. Car 141 signed on, followed by R541. TN updated Car 141 there might be a problem with a wood stove. Upon arrival, Car 141 reported a smoke condition in the dwelling and requested a structure fire assignment. Lt. Kerr and Firefighter Marth entered the house and proceeded to check the residence and evacuate the 4 family members. At this point, smoke was coming from the light switches in the second floor hallway. Tower 141 arrived on scene first and set up to go to the roof, while tarps and tools were brought into the house. ET341 layed a line from the beginning of the driveway, with a line stretched up to the second floor. When the line was charged, the wall was opened up revealing a working fire. A second line was stretched to the first floor, and a ground ladder was thrown to the second floor as a means of egress. The second floor crew opened up the bathroom and removed the tub, while the first floor crew opened up the ceiling around the wood stove. ET241 set up as a nurse tanker and tanker shuttle operations proceeded. The smoke detectors in the home worked well to help wake and alert the family.  A great job was done by all.
