Captain Steve Scanlon of Engine Tank 341 received a Firefighter of the Year Award from the Rockville Exchange Club.  This is the first time a local club has given an award to a firefighter.  The fire department selected candidates and the Vernon chief officers chose Capt. Scanlon.  Capt. Scanlon has been a member of department since 1977.  Not only is he captain of an engine company, he's the assistant mechanic for the department and helps maintain 17 vehicles, recruits new firefighters, heads up the fire department training program for all new firefighter recruits and some how finds time to help out with ambulance shifts.  He's a valuable asset to the Town of Vernon Fire Department.  The Rockville Exchange Club will honor Capt. Scanlon at a dinner scheduled for Wednesday, September 19th at 6:30 p.m. at The Colony.  Tickets are $20 each.  For more information or to purchase tickets call 870-9025.
