The Town of Vernon Fire Department's first "Safety Day" was held on Sunday, October 8, 2000 and kicked off Fire Prevention week.  All of Vernon's fire and EMS apparatus turned out with a variety of displays, fire safety demonstrations and rescue scenarios.  The day was used as an effort to recruit new members for both the fire department and ambulance companies.  The Vernon Police Department and the Connecticut State Police also turned out with impressive representation.  Overall, the entire day was a great success.  Congratulations and appreciation to Ken Kalos, Steve Eppler and Steve Scanlon who put many long hours into the Safety Day planning and organization.
