October 6, 2001 - 41 Orchard Street
Lt. Scott McDonald, the first arriving firefighter on scene, reported a "72" with heavy fire coming from the basement windows of 41 Orchard Street. Along with Station 441 and Station 541, Lt. McDonald started a second alarm assignment to the fire. Lt. McDonald then assisted two residents from the second floor porch who where trapped by thick, heavy smoke. ET 541 was first in pulling a 250' pre-connect to the rear of the building. The front of the building was obscured by trees and power lines but both aerial trucks (Tower 141 and Truck 541) did an excellent job in their placement. Unfortunately, the building was an older style balloon construction and the fire was very difficult to contain. Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours to overhaul and extinguish hot spots. In all - a good job done by everyone!
